The one-second forced expiratory volume (FEV1), forced vital capacity(FVC), FEV1/FVC ratio, maximal mid-expiratory flow (MMF), peak expiratory flow (PEF) of 50 healthy preschool children aged 6 and 7 years, were measured by using a computerized spirometry.
Means and standard deviations were presented for each height group (5cm intervals), age and sex. The mean value of FEV1 was 0.91L, FVC 0.90L, FEV1/FVC ratio 97.0£¥, MMF 1.6L/S and PEF 129.5L/M. The value of spirometric measurements were different by age and height.
Hight was a more reliable index of pulmonary development than age. The PEV1/FVC ratio was independent of age, sex and height.
